There are a bunch of things you can do with neckties. Craft projects using them shouldn't be too hard to come up with.
If you have a lot of old ties from Grandpa you can use them to make a braided rug. I bet it'd make a nice gift for Dad. (or Grandpa since he donated the neckties) They could put it in their office by their desk, in front of their favorite chair, or next to their side of the bed.
One thing you could do is weave them together, full length, and tack them to a cork board. Make it a customized message board for notes, photos, or lightweight tools.
Or you can cut them and weave them into placemats. Sew where the pieces cross so it won't fall apart on you. Another idea, you could sew it onto a plain fabric placemat and make it reversable.
